The yuan was officially incorporated into the SDR currency basket Oct. 1， 2016， which made it one of the world抯 most important reserve currencies together with the dollar， the euro， the pound， and the yen. As the one-year anniversary of the new SDR currency basket approached， China抯 central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan， who personally experienced and facilitated this event， gave Caijing an exclusive interview.

Zhou Xiaochuan said that the RMB抯 entry into the SDR currency basket marked an historical step forward in China抯 economic opening-up. The significance of opening-up should be appreciated at a higher level.
