“炒”是个来回翻动的动作，如“炒菜”“炒饭”。英语译为to stir-fry,to saute。“炒”有个引申意义是“买进卖出，来回倒腾，从中赢利”，这种“炒买炒卖”，是带有投机性的买卖或投资， 英语译为to trade/speculate insth。

“炒房子”或“炒地皮”，英语译为to speculate in real estate。如：1.房子是用来住的，不是用来炒的。The house is used to live in, not to specu⁃late in.

“炒股”，英语译为to trade/specu⁃late in stocks。如：2.股价的涨跌对我们的社会具有重大影响，特别是对那些炒股的人。The rise and fall of stock prices have tremendous effects on our society, especially on those who spec⁃ulate in stocks.

“ 炒黄金”， 英语译为to trade/speculate in gold and gold stocks。如： 3. 最近许多投资者匆忙去炒黄金，因此我们可以看到大量货币已涌入黄金股市。Recently many investors have rushed to speculate in gold stocks, so we can see big money has moved into the gold stock market.▲
